55 – Kerry Bellessa – Nicaragua in the 90’s

Nicaragua in the 90’s was a tough place to be. Political and Civil unrest got so intense that missionaries were pulled from the country for years and years. Finally as things grew safe, missionaries were allowed back into the freshly torn country. Insert a 19 year old Kerry Bellessa, a grunge music lover, who struggles with speaking Spanish, swallowing new foods, and quiet dignity.

Kris was struggling in his first and second areas in Argentina. He’s was in the middle of the country, far from any major cities, and farther from home. The excitement to serve as a missionary was fading as overwhelming feelings of depression and frustration grew. “This was not what I thought it was going to be.” But then something changed. Not something physical, but an epiphany and understanding on what Kris could and couldn’t control. A correct understanding of the Lord’s definition of success.
